Community Guidelines
RentMatcher works when renters, potential roommates, and landlords show up honestly and respectfully. These Community Guidelines are also our Acceptable Use Policy and apply to profiles, listings, messages, photos, reports, tour requests, boosts, and landlord tools.
We are a neutral technology platform. We do not verify listing accuracy, conduct background checks, or guarantee any user's identity, character, safety, background, or conduct.
1. Be Real And Accurate
- Use accurate account, profile, listing, budget, timing, and contact information.
- Do not impersonate another person, company, landlord, property, or RentMatcher.
- Do not create duplicate accounts, fake accounts, bots, or accounts to evade enforcement.
- Do not misrepresent listing availability, pricing, photos, amenities, policies, or access.
2. No Discrimination Or Fair-Housing Violations
You may not use RentMatcher to express, encourage, or act on a discriminatory preference, limitation, refusal, steering practice, or different treatment based on protected classes. See our Fair Housing and Non-Discrimination Policy for the full rules.
3. No Harassment, Hate, Threats, Or Sexual Misconduct
- Do not harass, bully, stalk, intimidate, threaten, or repeatedly contact someone.
- Do not post hate speech or attacks tied to protected or personal characteristics.
- Do not send unsolicited sexual content, sexual requests, or sexually explicit messages.
- If someone blocks you, stops responding, or asks you to stop, respect that boundary.
4. No Scams, Fraud, Or Unsafe Payment Requests
- Do not post fake, misleading, bait, duplicate, or unauthorized listings.
- Do not ask renters to wire deposits, pay holding fees, or send sensitive documents before they can independently verify a listing or person.
- Do not phish, request passwords or verification codes, distribute malware, or run financial scams.
- RentMatcher does not collect rent, deposits, application fees, or security deposits.
5. Keep RentMatcher Focused On Housing
- Do not spam, mass-message, scrape, harvest data, or use unauthorized automation.
- Do not promote unrelated products, services, investment schemes, or other apps.
- Do not move users off-platform to evade safety, reporting, or enforcement controls.
- Do not interfere with security, verification, rate limits, payments, or anti-abuse tools.
6. Respect Privacy And Content Rights
- Do not share another person's private information, screenshots, messages, or intimate content without permission.
- Do not upload photos, logos, listing descriptions, or media unless you own them or have permission to use them.
- Use information you receive on RentMatcher only to evaluate a rental, roommate, tour, or landlord connection.
7. Meeting And Tour Safety
Use your own judgment before meeting, touring, signing, or paying. Meet in public first when possible, tell someone where you are going, verify listings and people independently, and contact emergency services first if you are in immediate danger.
8. Reporting, Blocking, And Enforcement
You can block users and report profiles, listings, messages, and suspected violations in the app. We may review reported content and related activity, remove content, limit features, suspend or terminate accounts, preserve records where needed, and take action even without a report when we detect serious violations.
Please report in good faith. False, retaliatory, or abusive reports may themselves violate these guidelines. For urgent safety concerns or questions about a report, email support@rentmatcher.com.
